Things To Do When Your Kids Are Bored – Without leaving the house

“I’m so bored!”

How many times have you heard that phrase since school ended? Whether you’re a parent, babysitter, grandparent, or guardian, there is a pretty good chance you are all too familiar with that statement.

When a kid is bored, one of the best things we can do is help them find ways to entertain themselves. Find activities that allows them to use their senses and are at the right level of difficulty. Keep a box full of fun things for them to do like paint sets, play dough, coloring books, and puzzles. Just be sure to update this box every couple of months to keep it fresh.

Of course that’s not going to keep them “not bored” all summer long, so here is a list of fun activities they can do -without leaving the house.

** Make ice cream in a bag **

______________

** Indoor obstacle course **

______________

** Play lily-pad leap with small rugs, paper, or towels **

strategically placed throughout the playroom or living room.

______________

** Hide & Go Seek an object – like a teddy bear **

This way you’re not hiding in a closet for 20 minutes waiting for them to find you. You simply hide the object and they have to find it. Make it a challenge for older kids by setting a timer on your phone and the first to find it wins a treat.

Studies have shown that people are more creative when they’re bored. It’s just how the human mind works. When our minds are bored, we start to daydream, and daydreaming sparks creative thoughts. So don’t stress yourself out if your kid says they are bored. Let them exercise their imaginations because it’s an important skill they need to develop.
