Will The Clear Blue Water Return To Galveston?

Will the clear blue water make a comeback to Galveston for the third time? Those of you who visit Galveston Island know how rare it is to hear about “clear blue water” washing ashore there. We are more accustomed to the murky brown waters, full of sediment from rivers feeding into the Gulf of Mexico. The first appearance of the clear blue water began on Memorial Day weekend and had many visitors comparing the water to what you would see in the Caribbean. The current and Subtropical Storm Alberto is what brought a large swell of blue water to the Texas shore. The blue water returned once again during the weekend of June 8th but never made it all the way to the shore but it could be seen in the distance. We contacted the Galveston Tourism board to find out if the pristine water would make a comeback and they stated “Never say never. The brown water is back but that wasn’t the first time we seen clearer water. Actually clear water can be seen on the Galveston beaches a few times a year, not as blue as this one but we certainly see green and clearer water from time to time.” It may not be the news we were hoping for but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the many activities Galveston has to offer. Here is a list of fun and unique things to do on the island this Summer.

Discover Galveston’s Historic Architecture on a Segway or Electric Bike

Before the destructive hurricane in 1900, Galveston was a thriving seaside city second only to Ellis Island as an immigration port. Although the storm changed the course of history, much of the grand and glorious architecture of the era still stands to this very day. You can see these historical treasures everywhere, but one of the best ways to really get to know Galveston’s historic side is on a Segway tour with SegCity Segway Tours Galveston. On your majestic two-wheel steed, you’ll pass the Galveston Railroad Museum and venture into the largest collection of Victorian-era homes in the country on your way to the seawall. Led by a knowledgeable guide, it’s a great way to learn about local lore.
